The Time of Flight Lives!

I have another bad breadboard. :(

The time of flight sensor works! What happened was the distributer gave me the wrong sensor! The Pololu support worker recognized the difference in a picture that I took. All I had to do is download the correct libraries and it's perfectly fine! Distributers shouldn't be handing out wrong sensors... grumble grumble...
Things that I noticed about it:
  • good and steady in the close range, but when the hand gets farther away it quickly sweeps up to the high end.
  • more jittery than the IR
  • works ok through the plastic hamster ball, but not great
  • it doesn't work as well in the dark, but it works
  • it's still better than the ultrasonic
  • because it can see through the plastic, an ultrasonic would be better for when I'm trying to detect when the ball is sitting in its stands/cases.

Started thinking about how to put this all together. I'll need to figure out:
  1. How to make my ultrasonic sensors and IR sensor that are made for 5V to be compatible with my 3.3V arduinos. All my other components are 3.3V compatible, so it makes more sense to alter just these two sensors than going the other way around.

  2. Understand how to have two sensors that both use I2C (the accelerometer and the colour sensor)

    2. The TCS34725 address: This board/chip uses I2C 7-bit address 0x29.https://www.adafruit.com/product/1334
  3. Multiplex it all together. Different method from TRAVIS II?

  4. Back to thinking about wireless methods...

    Welcome!

If you are looking for a summary for my Masters thesis, it is here.

This page is where I blog about my progress with my Masters thesis. It is in no way meant to be "official" or in academic lingo. It's meant for me to quickly jot down my ideas before I forget them, even if they may not necessarily make sense to anyone else.
